The charming Hungarian baroque town of Veszprém and the surrounding picturesque Bakony-Balaton region proudly bear the title of "European Capital of Culture" this year. A variety of events await guests.

Veszprém is located in the immediate vicinity of the Bakony Forest and Lake Balaton. As one of the oldest cities in Hungary, it can look back on a rich cultural heritage: historical monuments such as the so-called "Fire Tower" with a wonderful view of the city or the monasteries and gardens around St. Benedict's Hill invite you to take a historical walk. Classical and pop concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions await visitors. Veszprém also organizes at least one music festival almost every month - it is not for nothing that the city has the UNESCO title "City of Music". Regional cuisine is also a central part of the culture and program.

Lake Balaton with its beaches is particularly well known as a family-friendly bathing destination in Hungary. Incidentally, it is the largest lake in Central Europe and always invites you to take a dip in the cool water. The region is ideal for exploring by bike. This is particularly easy with the BalatonBike365 project: a website and mobile app help visitors to discover numerous, even lesser-known, cycle routes. The spa town of Hévíz, which is known for its wellness facilities and medical treatments, is also located here. The thermal lake of the same name is not only an idyllic oasis of peace, its water is also said to have healing properties.
