The Oberoi Beach Resort
Heavenly peace in the Garden of Eden
but also want to benefit from the proximity to popular excursion destinations.
First things first: Beach and swimming fans are better served a few kilometers further north, for example in Trou aux Biches. But otherwise the Oberoi leaves nothing to be desired: Highly successful, the balancing act between rusticity and a modern touch. Artifacts from Africa and sugar cane roofs crown the pavilions and villas, female stone figures, known internally as "Big Mamas", and cute, country-inspired "Chicken Huts" line the paths. The weather forecast for the next day - "sun and clouds, 25 - 32 degrees" - can be found, very oldschool, on a note on the bedside table. The bills in restaurants and bars are signed exclusively on the tablet. There are plenty of options for foodies: the communal table is set in the "herb garden" on weekend evenings. The four-course menu is pre-set, the marinated leg of lamb has been stewing in the ground for hours. A few meters away, in the carefully renovated "Gunpowder Room", Creole specialties are served on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the casual "On the Rocks", where the waves crash against the volcanic rock, the shrimp tacos are a hot tip at lunchtime. At the buffet breakfast in the main restaurant, it is unpleasantly noticeable that the birds circling around the glass boxes are not exactly fanatically chased away by the staff. We prefer the company of our feathered friends in front of our Premier Villa. Lizards and geckos also feel at home in the wonderful garden - we would love to spend the whole day marveling at the wonders of nature. Below the Garden of Eden is a small fishing pier with a ladder into the sea and a view over Turtle Bay. You don't have to go down to watch the sunset - the slightly elevated villa provides the spectacle free of charge.
Test highlight: The feeling of living in a Premier Villa: sea view, private garden, sun loungers, pool, pavilion for afternoon espresso.
