Giesing Munich

Munich: Away from the mainstream

Bavaria's capital surprises: if you look deeper, you will discover neighborhoods full of character and history.

Viertelliebe München invites you to rediscover the city - off the beaten track.

Whether for visitors to the city or Munich residents themselves, the Viertelliebe tours provide a glimpse into the previously unknown corners of the city. The aim is to experience the diversity of Munich beyond Marienplatz and discover places that are often overshadowed by the big highlights. Since spring 2021, experts have been giving two-hour tours through nine districts of the city. Every Saturday at 3 p.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m., you can go on a journey of discovery - you can choose from Schwabing, the Kunstareal, Haidhausen, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg, Giesing, the Schlachthof and Bahnhofsviertel districts as well as the Olympiapark and the Olympic Village. Giesing and the Schlachthofviertel are two districts that are less well known but have a charm all of their own. On the guided tour through Giesing, the neighborhood and history become tangible: between traditional "Boazn" (pubs), allotment gardens and the legendary Grünwalder Stadium, where FC Bayern once played, life feels wonderfully down-to-earth. The Schlachthofviertel, on the other hand, offers creative contrasts - where livestock was once traded, a vibrant cultural quarter has now developed. The new Volkstheater, the Isarphilharmonie and the Bahnwärter Thiel container village with club nights, theater and street art make the Schlachthofviertel a hotspot of urban change. And anyone who enjoys the sunset on the Alte Utting, a disused passenger ship on a railroad bridge, quickly realizes that Munich can not only be chic, but also really cool.

On the Munich Tourism website, the five quarter-love ambassadors give an insight into their lives and also reveal their Munich recommendations: www.einfach-muenchen.de/viertelliebe
