40 years of Angerhof s sports and wellness hotel (1985 - 2025)

The owner-managed hotel is located in the recognized climatic health resort of Sankt Englmar, the well-known year-round vacation destination in the Bavarian Forest. At an altitude of 900 m in the most beautiful natural south-facing slope, you can enjoy a distant view over the Danube valley to the Alps.

The "Angerhof" now has 160 beds in single and double rooms, suites and family rooms. In addition to regional and international gourmet cuisine, hotel guests can enjoy the unique "Wald-SPA" wellness area on 6,500 m²!

Natural resources, craftsmanship, nature and culture from the region characterize the ambience of this unique wellness world. An oasis with a total of seven pools, including two indoor and outdoor infinity pools, each 20 x 5 meters, with what is perhaps Germany's first pool cinema, as well as a natural pool and indoor and outdoor saltwater pools. Guests can also enjoy a total of seven different saunas and heat sources, nine themed relaxation areas, Sky Terrace, 30,000 m² of gardens with fitness trail, 500-metre barefoot path, bouldering facility, rental MTBs and e-bikes with route plan and a weekly guided sports and activity program.

As early as 1985, the year it was founded, the "Angerhof" focused on "experience gastronomy", albeit in smaller steps. After a few years of traveling in the top hotel industry at home and abroad, the Austrian Franz Wagnermayr and his wife Maria founded the "Hotel Angerhof", restaurant, café, bar, at Anger 38, with 30 beds, in their home village.

At that time, activities such as themed evenings with live music and guided hikes or MTB tours were already on the program. Through personal commitment, several extensions quickly followed until the hotel reached its current size.

In 2003, even the magazine "Stiftung Warentest" became aware of the wellness market. Out of more than 300 applicants, the "Angerhof" was ranked No. 1 among the 4-star wellness hotels in Germany. Since then, the "Angerhof" has been considered a pioneer in the wellness industry in Germany. In 2025, the "Angerhof" can look back on 40 successful years, 80% regular guests and repeat guests and offers attractive anniversary offers!
