Oh, how nice, some Swiss and Austrians will be pleased to hear, now we can reach Sylt non-stop, i.e. in less than two hours. Swiss and Austrian make it possible. Austrian will be flying from Vienna to Westerland every Saturday from June 28 until October, Swiss four times a week from Zurich until the end of October. Transfer services are offered by the five members of Privathotels Sylt. These include Benen-Diken-Hof in Keitum, Hotel Budersand in Hörnum, Hotel Fährhaus in Munkmarsch, Hotel Rungholt in Kampen and Landhaus Stricker. Rental cars are also available at the airport, including from Europcar and Sixt. MORE HERE!

The island is increasingly focusing on sustainability, climate and environmental protection and is a partner of "justexplore", for example. The company offers e-vehicles, e.g. from Mercedes and Smart. If you book here, you get a free transfer from the airport or train station to the e-mobility center. The bus network has also been expanded in recent years, and rental stations for bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters have increased their fleets. The Syltgo! app is a good aid to regular bus services, on which the Deutschland Ticket is valid. The buses are equipped with WiFi and racks for bikes, which can be taken free of charge. This is useful when the wind is blowing hard from the front on the way back. Or when it's getting late. Buses run on the Hörnum - Westerland - Kampen - List route until midnight in the summer months.

There is also plenty of news to report from both the hotel and restaurant sectors. The Hotel "Strönhof" in Kampen, formerly the traditional Walter's Hof, has been given a new lease of life. The Lindner Group, which also owns Hotel Stadt Hamburg, has taken over the hotel and furnished the 15 apartments in charming soft colors. The largest is called Herzmuschel. It impresses with a dream view over the Kampen heath, dunes and two seas - the North Sea and the Wadden Sea. The wellness area with pool, sauna and steam bath is located in the basement. Breakfast is served in the restaurant and on the terrace. We are still looking for an experienced chef.

Is it a surprise? You could have guessed it. After 40 years, Peter Kliem has now handed over his legendary "Club Rotes Kliff" to Sepp Brückmann and Rabea Palenschat. We are keeping our fingers crossed that things will continue to boom there. Generally speaking, Kampen has lost out when it comes to nightlife. The Dorfkrug run by Anne and Thomas is still the place to go for top steaks and a good atmosphere. For a cake fight or an exquisite feast, sometimes with soccer stars at the regulars' table, you can still go to Manne Pahl run by Pius Regli and his daughter Sarah. The enterprising host has just conquered another restaurant - Pius on the Beach . The former kiosk opposite the North Sea Clinic is now a cool wooden hut with a large terrace under the dunes. Whether it's crispy chips, spicy currywurst or tataki from yellow fin tuna, this is real Sylt flair by day and by night.

Because cycling is their passion, three friends - Frederik Wiegleb, Julian Diedrichsen and Benjamin Keller - have named their new gastronomic domicile on the Wenningstedt campsite "Cafè Klapprad" . A place to feel good, furnished with recycled materials. Apart from creative cakes and tarts, the savory dishes also taste delicious. Like sea bass fillet and crispy crab, sardines or rack of lamb.

As you stroll along the Westerland promenade, the aroma of baked goods wafts into your nose. It comes from the surf deli "Zur Goldenen Möwe" . The specialty is foccacia, which comes fresh out of the oven with an exciting topping from chef Carl. Many a seagull lies in wait for the tasty morsel. In "Käseklub Keitum" on the other hand, ex Friesisches Käselädchen, there is no need to fear feathered bread thieves. The landlord is the cheerful Fabian Kolb, who earned his spurs in Johannes King's bistro. Whether from goats, cows or sheep, many of the loaves come from the Backholz organic farm. The Frisian tartilette is delicious. Settle down on the red bench by the field and inhale the agricultural flair while nibbling on the melted snack. Wonderful.

The Benen-Diken-Hof , a member of Privathotels, has some news to announce. In summer, its restaurant "Kökken" will move into the former Salon 1900. "We want to make Kökken the favorite restaurant for upscale North German fish cuisine," says hotel director Claas-Erik Johannsen. However, the date has not yet been set. What is certain, however, is that Christian Siegling, GM at Severin's, will join the Lanserhof Group as Chief Operating Officer on July 1.

There has also been a change further south, at the "Sansibar" . Completely renovated last year, the wooden building was optimized in terms of sustainability and fitted with large windows, host Herbert Seckler handed over the reins completely to his son Nikolas. Less well known is the "Sylter Muschel Bistro" in Hörnum, a quaint offshoot of the Sylt mussel fishery. The best mussels on the island are available here in the summer months. Harvested from the MSC and organic label-certified farm off the southern tip, they are only served in the rustic restaurant. Or prepared by owner Jan Schot himself on a safari around the mussel beds.

But there is one exception. Budersand Hotel - Golf & Spa - Sylt , also a member of Privathotels, now attracts island guests to Mussel Wednesday. Located within sight of the cutters, the freshly landed delicacies are transferred to the hotel kitchen by golf cart. The suites are new and feature chic custom-made furniture. Finally, a date to remember: From March 14-16, 2026, Budersand will host "Felix& Friends" for the third time, the grandiose weekend of indulgence with dinner at Michelin-starred restaurant Kai3 and a street food festival.
