#6 Namibia: How our guest Michael Poliza lures us onto his tracks...
Logbuch Podcast is back with episode 6, following Kiki Baron, a travel journalist who has been traveling the world for 40 years. We visit dream destinations and enrich our stay with her personal experiences and encounters. In this episode, photographer Michael Poliza is our guest. He showed Kiki the desert country of Namibia in its most dazzling colors on a fly-in safari he organized.
Michael Poliza's work as a wildlife photographer is just one side of his varied life. Among other things, this has resulted in magnificent photo books about Africa, which have been sold in 70 countries. But the Hamburg native is also an entrepreneur, explorer and ambassador for WWF. He shares his life in different worlds with us and talks about his development from IT entrepreneur to professional photographer (03:02). The 1000-day voyage on the "Starship" takes him around the world (04:20), his friendship with lodge and hotel group Wilderness Safaris (https://wilderness-safaris.com/) criss-crosses Africa. Unique aerial photographs, taken on an eight-week helicopter tour from Hamburg to Cape Town, were condensed into the award-winning book "Eyes over Africa" (07:10).
We talk about Namibia (08:43) and about perfect timing for up-close nature experiences. Being in the right place at the right time is a maxim of Michael's trips, which he organizes for families or small groups and which can be booked via "mp-experiences" (www.mp-experiences.de/). He used to bring pictures to people, as he says, now he brings people to the pictures. "Creating memories" is also the basis of the sophisticated choreography of Michael's adventure trips (http://michaelpoliza.com/). Kiki tells us what kind. Sometimes, however, chance plays a role, such as the encounter with a Himba woman in the seemingly endless desert of the Hartman Valley (13:50).
What makes Africa so fascinating? The nature photographer gets to the heart of the matter (34:40).
We sit down for the interview in Michael's photo gallery in Hamburg. There are two dozen e-bikes from Riese Müller in the showroom. How do you get from the plane via Africa to the luxury saddle around Hamburg? Michael Poliza has now also founded "MP eBike Adventures" and highlights exciting experiences in his home country (35:55). Kiki is part of the party.
Episode 6 continues to take exciting turns in terms of world travel. In keeping with this, Michael gives us one of his wonderful photo books -
