Cruise-Report: Mein Schiff 5 (2/3)
On July 15, the "Mein Schiff 5" was ceremoniously christened in Lübeck-Travemünde. We were allowed on board three weeks earlier and spent a night on the Elbe with the latest premium liner from TUI Cruises.
Part 2: Sleeping better on the "Mein Schiff 5"
The "Mein Schiff 5" offers twelve different cabin categories - from the 17 m2 inside cabin to the Diamond Suite, which is quite small at 42 m2, but has a 47 m2 private terrace. Whichever you choose, all cabins and suites are furnished to a high standard and - apart from the mini bathrooms in the standard categories - convey Nordic chic and individual charm. From the photo art on the wall to the many cleverly designed storage spaces and details such as the decorative cushions or curtain fabrics: you won't find this much taste and feel-good interior on other premium ships.
And the suites? Our favorites are the "Sky & Sea Suites", which extend over two decks and have their own roof terrace with hammock, loungers, table and chairs. Huge glass fronts and one or two design classics create a luxurious yet relaxed penthouse atmosphere in the "Sky & Sea Suites". Also on offer: junior, themed and diamond suites, all of which have very successful layouts and top interiors. What bothers us: the lack of room service! After all, what good is the most beautiful suite with the most spectacular terrace if you can't even have a relaxed breakfast in your bathrobe or a romantic dinner on the high seas?
During our one-day familiarization cruise on the Elbe, we were accommodated in a balcony cabin on deck 11. What we didn't like here was that the cabin and balcony were quite shady and dark because the decks above were built in front like a roof due to their width. Sunlight hardly ever gets in, which, we were assured, was the main reason for booking for some guests. Deck 11 balcony cabins were therefore among the most popular cabins with the most regular bookings. Is it true? We doubt it, because these regular bookers should not only be light-shy, but also noise-loving. During the party night at the pool on deck 12, the music and the rumbling on our trip was absolutely unacceptable. To be fair, however, it should be mentioned that this particular trip was not a regular cruise and the DJ was probably allowed to turn up the volume a little louder than usual for the journalists, travel agency staff and sales partners traveling with us ...
