Day 1: Applause! Let's hear it! Escape the Viennese gray autumn for a few days in the direction of the Mediterranean late summer ... Sounds good, but it can be even better if you get to spend a few days on board the Regent Seven Seas Explorer, which has just been put into service!

"The most luxurious ship ever built" is what the shipping company calls its latest addition to the fleet, and not without some modesty. Is it true? We will certainly find out on the way from Civitavecchia to Athens. But first of all we have to walk along the line of enthusiastically clapping crew members at the pier. Some guests may find this quite exciting. But let's be honest: applause for what? For the fact that we made it from the airport to the ship on our own? Or perhaps more for the fact that we can carry our hand luggage on board ourselves, because everyone is busy clapping and no one has a helping hand free? My opinion: Such a welcome ceremony is not only superfluous and embarrassing, but it is also disrespectful and degrading for all the employees who have to stand on their feet for over an hour and act as if the Almighty, or at least Brangelina in better times, had just appeared to them ... Really good service works at eye level, you don't need claqueurs for that. And while we're on the subject of really good service: A suite card pressed into your hand with the location of the nearest elevator is not exactly what you would expect from the "most luxurious ship ever built". So we conquer our suite ourselves. And at some point we find out how the free Wi-Fi on board works (which is actually worth a round of applause). So here we go, writing these lines. And with this trip on board the Regent Seven Seas Explorer ...
