The cruise captains' favorite ports
"Regent Seven Seas Explorer" captain Rosario Giovanni "Saro" Vasta over Venice:
"I don't know of any other city that is as closely associated with the sea and seafaring as Venice. The entrance through the lagoon and then past St. Mark's Square to the cruise terminal is always an event - even for me. I also like the fact that I can walk into the city from the ship to have an espresso or eat delicious pasta in one of the many local eateries. The cooking there is simple and excellent! And then there's the cultural offer - the many museums, palaces, the opera house ... Venice and I, that's the great and true love!"
Rosario G. Vasta has been at sea for more than 25 years - and not only on cruise ships, but also on oil tankers and ferries. He has been under contract with Regent Seven Seas Cruises since 2014. When the Sicilian native is not sailing the world's oceans, he lives in the small fishing village of Torre Archirafi not far from Taormina.
