The cruise captains' favorite ports
MS Europa captain Mark Behrend about Stockholm
What special features does the experienced captain appreciate about the port city?
"Stockholm is a special port of call for me every time. A visit to the Swedish capital is simply more than just a visit to the Swedish capital! Because reaching Stockholm by ship is always an unforgettable experience that doesn't just start in the port itself. The four-hour archipelago cruise, which is well worth seeing, is an integral part - and can only be experienced from a ship. As we are usually in Stockholm for two days, the departure usually takes place during the day. Then there are no guests left on board and the railing is lined with enthusiastic passengers: you discover things big and small in the immediate vicinity at the edge of the fairway, the course of which is like a cruise in itself. And since Stockholm is at the same latitude as St. Petersburg, it never gets really dark here in summer.
A must-see not only for anyone interested in seafaring: the WASA Museum will captivate everyone! And it's not far from the berth right in the heart of this open-minded and cosmopolitan metropolis to the museum anyway.
Incidentally, there is a long tradition of the Europa calling at Stockholm. You can see it in this contemporary document that I discovered on my last shore leave: a large banner documenting the fourth EUROPA's call at Stockholm in 1970!"
