Day 3: Living like God in France on Terre de Haut
Travel Diary: From St. Maarten to Barbados
No, it's no shame if you've never heard of Terre de Haut. After all, the mini-island, which belongs to the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, has just 1,773 inhabitants - and probably just as many semi-wild goats. But it's a shame, because Terre de Haut is pretty much the most beautiful and untouched Caribbean island you can imagine: a single picture-book colorful village, a dream beach with shady palm trees and powdered sugar-fine sand and a handful of bistros serving café au lait and freshly baked croissants.
More of everything would be too much of a good thing. The local Saniois know this too - which is why they keep a close eye on their island to ensure that mass tourism does not develop and that only the smallest and finest cruise ships are allowed to anchor off their island.
We with our Seadream 1 are just the right size. After all, we have just 110 passengers - and almost as many crew members ...
And the same applies to us: more of both would simply be too much of a good thing!
