From half-frozen sandwiches, stained flannel blankets & alphorns in the Caribbean...
"Anticipation is the greatest joy" - they say.
In fact, there are also cruisers who enjoy "suing the cruise line afterwards" even more. Every year, you can read about all the justified (and above all unfounded) disputes that end up in court in the "Würzburg table on travel law for cruises". Admittedly not a thriller, but in some cases really comedy-worthy! The updated edition for 2017 has just been published. Fancy a little excerpt?
A passenger is served a half-frozen sandwich on board and demands a price reduction. "Better too cold than too hot", the judges probably thought and rejected the claim.
On the other hand, 5% of the travel price was refunded because in the cabin of a sailing schooner, instead of cozy feather beds, only scratchy and stained flannel blankets were waiting for a tired sea dog.
If you'd like to try your hand at whining and complaining, we can guarantee that others have already gone home empty-handed in the following situations:
+ The on-board disco doesn't open until midnight and mainly plays music for young people.
+ Typical harbor noises can be heard in the harbor.
+ The carpets in the dining room and bar are frayed.
+ A fellow passenger has infected you with crabs.
+ During the broadcast of the European Football Championship, there is satellite-related TV interference.
+You fall out of the hammock on the balcony of your cabin.
+ The ship's doctor treats you well and correctly, but doesn't speak German.
+ A mobile phone rings several times in the on-board restaurant. + Your fingers get salty when you touch the railing.
+ There is no land to be seen during a day at sea.
However, the passenger who had booked a week-long Caribbean cruise on an international ship for 560 passengers and found himself surrounded by 500 members of a Swiss customs association was right - and our fullest sympathy. Instead of salsa and reggae, there were only yodels, folk songs, traditional dances and alphorn players for seven days ... The judges also found this unreasonable and ordered the shipping company to refund 40% of the travel price.
You can download the complete Würzburg table from the Internet: würzburger-tabelle.de/tabelle/. We think: a wonderful read on long days at sea ...
