The cross with the crusaders ...

Venice, Dubrovnik, but also Barcelona, Ibiza and Palma: more and more cities around the Mediterranean are complaining about the never-ending flood of cruise passengers that pours over them every day.

"They make a lot of noise, paralyze traffic and hardly leave any money on land" are the main points of criticism, which actually seem worth discussing in view of the mega-liners with more than 5,000 thrifty all-inclusive guests.

However, the news that reached us a few weeks ago from Honningsvag on the North Cape simply leaves us speechless and lacks any basis for discussion: several hundred cruisers stormed the cemetery in the small town of 3,000 souls at the same time - at the exact moment that a funeral was taking place! Reverence? Not a chance! Instead, they filmed, photographed and blocked as much as they could ...
A tasteless low point in this small town in the far north, which now has to cope with more than 300,000 cruise passengers a year.
The shipping company concerned has now responded to the incident with an information film that will be shown on the ships from next season. A few (compulsory) etiquette and decency lessons in the daily on-board program would certainly be a useful addition. And perhaps the route planners should also think about whether a place like Honningsvag can really be expected to have 300 times the population of additional guests. Ultimately, passengers and locals alike suffer from such excesses.

And what's more, who wants the poor people of Honningsvag to turn over in anger on the way to their graves?
