No fewer than 23 (!) new cruise ships are being launched this year - many of them in the mid-range segment or designed exclusively for the booming Asian market. But a fresh wind is also blowing in the luxury segment, sometimes even at hurricane force. The most recent example is the SeaDream Innovation: announced as an ultra-luxurious new build for 2020, work on the ship was simply stopped a few weeks ago and all further expansion plans were canceled ... How good that there are still enough ships left for us to look forward to:

Seven Seas Splendor:
The Splendor from Regent Seven Seas Cruises will make its debut in February. Designed for 730 passengers, it will have a 413 square meter spa area. No less dreamlike: a bed costing around 180,000 euros for a heavenly sleep high above the waves ...

Fridtjof Nansen
A hybrid ship from the far north: The Fridtjof Nansen is designed as an environmentally friendly expedition ship and will be sailing primarily in Arctic and Antarctic waters from March. With the ship designed for 530 guests, Hurtigruten is impressively continuing its expansion course around the world and towards luxury and lifestyle.

Scarlet Lady:
There is probably no other ship that is currently so eagerly awaited by insiders and cruise experts as the Scarlet Lady from Virgin Voyages. No wonder, after all, Sir Richard Branson is the mastermind behind the new adults-only ship that could revolutionize the entire industry. From March, the elegant cruise liner with outdoor gym, beach cabanas, "Mega Rockstar Suites", vegetarian restaurant and "Kick-ass Nightclub" will be cruising the Caribbean.

Celebrity Apex:
It's "Cast off!" for the Celebrity Edge's sister ship in April. The innovative Magic Carpet, which sometimes serves as a bar and sometimes as a tender station and glides up and down the ship's side, will also be on board.

Le Bellot & Le Jacques Cartier:
When the French are not on strike, they build first-class mega yachts that can be used to explore even the most remote corners of the world. The activities of the French shipping company Ponant can probably be summarized in something like this. The company has been on a growth course for years, focusing on small, expedition-ready ships with plenty of flair and savoir vivre. Highlights of the two newbuildings, which will be launched in April and June respectively, are underwater lounges with panoramic windows.

Enchanted Princess:
Princess Cruises also has a new, stately addition: the new Enchanted Princess aims to impress with its culinary concept and plenty of space for up to 3,600 passengers. Sounds delicious and can also be sampled in person from June 2020.

Silver Origin & Silver Moon:
Just in time for the start of summer, Silversea is also expanding its fleet with two new members: The Silver Origin will travel the Galapagos archipelago as a small and extremely fine luxury yacht. The maximum of 100 guests on board will always have their own butler and plenty of luxury. As the sister ship of the Silver Muse, the Silver Moon will be cruising in closer waters. From August 2020, she will cruise the Mediterranean with up to 600 passengers.

Crystal Endeavor:
Quite adventurous - and extremely exclusive: the Crystal Endeavor will be sailing with its own submarines and a helicopter on board. So anyone who has always wanted to see their cruise ship from far above or far below will be able to do so from August 2020.
