Day 4: Grande Anse / Martinique
Travel Diary: From St. Maarten to Barbados
And another place where time seems to have stood still: Grande Anse, on Martinique's rainforest-green south-west coast, presents itself to us as a sleepy fishing village where French pensioners play boules on the village beach and wait for the cold winter months back home to end. Sure, you could jump in a cab and drive over to the island's capital Fort-de-France, visit a rum distillery, stop by a banana plantation ...
Or you can turn around on the jetty and take the next tender boat back to the Seadream I. After all, how long has it been since you last went water skiing or played golf on a simulator? What about all the books you brought with you that always seemed far too long on land? And when was the last time you spent a whole afternoon lying in a deckchair doing nothing but watching the waves?
The Seadream I is the perfect place for all of this - and much more. And: all this happens on board in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that is more reminiscent of a rich friend's private yacht than a "normal" cruise ship. Days - and ports - like this are the real luxury of this trip, which certainly has its price, but which is actually priceless.
