Ships we are looking forward to in 2018:
Part 1 - the Celebrity Edge
"Edgy" or "on the cutting-edge" - translated from English, this means something like "particularly innovative, first-class, cutting-edge", but also "that small step ahead of its time that makes a big difference". Just like the new Edge from Celebrity Cruises, the eagerly awaited cruise liner that will be joining the US cruise line's fleet in late fall 2018.
What makes the Edge so edgy? The new "Edge Villas", for example - two-storey super suites with private pools and direct access to an exclusive sun deck. Or the "Rooftop Garden" with its own gardener and, of course, the "Magic Carpet", a kind of floating terrace attached to the outside of the ship. Lowered into the water, it serves as a comfortable tender station during the day, while raised upwards it functions as a spectacular panoramic bar on deck 16 in the evening. And then there are the new infinity verandas, which seem to dissolve the boundary between the inside and outside of the cabin at the touch of a button and create up to 20% more free space in the balcony categories ... Incidentally, interior design greats such as Kelly Hoppen and Patricia Urquiola are also responsible for so much good design and sensible luxury.
Middle class? Premium? Or perhaps luxury - it's hard to say where the Celebrity Edge should be classified. Here too, Celebrity Cruises is one step ahead of many of its competitors by blurring the boundaries (and ship classes). A fully glazed mega-suite directly above the bridge or a modest inside cabin in the belly of the ship? Anything is possible once you have lost the solid ground under your feet and are "on the cutting edge". Fancy the new Edge? Click here for the first visual impressions:
