Let off some steam!
Green Cruising
Cruises are booming, but the environment is suffering - because the majority of ships are still powered by heavy fuel oil, a substance that is highly hazardous to the environment and health and which exceeds the permitted sulphur emissions for cars by a factor of 3,500 (!) when burned. The club liner, which entered service on June 30, is 100% LNG (liquefied natural gas) powered. And its emissions balance is something to be proud of (but hardly smell): Greenhouse gases -23%, nitrogen oxides -92%, sulphur - 99% ...!
So full speed ahead is also possible in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way! And with this knowledge, we as paying passengers should perhaps not only ask about cabin size, pool length and number of restaurants when we next book, but also about the type of propulsion, particle emissions and pollutant filter system. Because ultimately it is also our responsibility how green the next (cruise) trip into the blue will be ...
