On October 20, Air Mauritius took delivery of the first of six Airbus A350 XWBs ordered for its fleet.

The second aircraft will be delivered next month, when the first two older six A340-300s can be replaced.

With the A350 delivery, Air Mauritius became the second operator of this type in the Africa / Indian Ocean region behind Ethiopian Airlines.

Connoisseur Circle was on board the spectacular delivery flight from Toulouse to Mauritius. The aircraft is equipped with a two-class layout of 326 seats - 28 in Business and 298 in Economy Class. On board, we were able to see for ourselves how comfortable Business Class is. But also of how the hospitality of the staff on board is celebrated, which probably also speaks for that of the island. We were also impressed by the state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, which sets absolutely new standards.

"The aircraft will first be used on the way to South Africa for pilot training and then to Paris Charles de Gaulle. Later this year or in early 2018," explains Air Mauritius CEO Somaskaran Appavou.

"In 2018, two A330neos will join our fleet. In 2019, two more A350s will replace the two A340s, and the last two A350s will take over in 2023, when the last A340s will leave the fleet.

Air Mauritius operates 21 destinations in Africa, the Indian Ocean, Europe, Asia and Australia and transports 1.6 million passengers annually. Amsterdam will be added to the route network at the end of October. Seasonal flights to Geneva will begin in November. "Geneva should also be a gateway for us to Eastern Europe," said Appavou.

Air Mauritius currently operates 14 aircraft, including three ATR 72-500s, six A340-300 / 300Es, two A330-200s, two A319s and one A350-900 for regional and long-haul flights.
