Airbus A320neo - a quiet neighbor

Lufthansa took delivery of its first Airbus A320neo in January. At first glance, this A320 looks just like all the others in the Lufthansa Group. And a total of 4,132 Airbus A320s (excluding family models such as the A319 or A321) have been delivered worldwide to date - and the trend is rising.

But the addition of "neo" in large letters on the tail shows that something exciting has been created here. With its large Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines, the A320neo is up to 50 percent quieter - which will also please the neighbors at the airports - and 15 percent more fuel-efficient. And this figure is to be improved to 20 percent, explained Airbus boss Fabrice Bregier recently in Hamburg Finkenwerder at the official handover of the aircraft to Lufthansa. Lufthansa, which has ordered 116 jets of this type, will be particularly pleased, as the price of fuel will not remain as low as it is now forever.

Lufthansa pilots appreciate the enormous power of this new generation of engines, which brings the twin-engine jet to cruising altitude much faster. There are 180 seats for the passengers on board. In the front, where Business Class service is also offered, with greater seat pitch, but there is also enough space for legroom in the rest of the cabin thanks to a new generation of seats - narrower and lighter. On the other hand, the last two rows are rather cramped and should be avoided if possible. Lufthansa plans to place the cheapest ticket holders in these seats, as the Executive Board told Connoisseur Circle.

Otherwise: a quiet flight experience and a spacious cabin are convincing. According to a flight attendant, the Lufthansa A320neo will be used on flights lasting up to two and a half hours. This is because there are now only ovens in the front galley for heating food. This means that no hot meals are provided in Economy Class on these flights.
