There is much speculation about the future of the largest commercial aircraft.

Whether there will be other airlines besides Emirates Airline that will need an Airbus A380 in the future, but the topic of the second-hand market is also exciting. After all, Singapore Airlines is now taking five A380s out of service after their 10-year lease expires and they will be replaced by new aircraft of the same type.

The Portuguese specialist in the wet-lease business, Hi Fly, i.e. an airline for other airlines when they urgently need additional capacity, will receive its first A380 this summer. Hi Fly will thus become the 14th Airbus A380 operator worldwide, but the first with a used jet. The aircraft, with construction number MSN 6, will be registered in Malta as 9H-MIP. Hi Fly is already promoting the aircraft in order to offer it to other airlines.

In addition to the A380, the Portuguese airline also operates one A321, five A330-200/300s and nine A340-300s. 10 A330-900s have also been ordered and will be deployed from 2019. The first used A380 will offer 471 seats, of which 399 Economy on the main deck, plus 60 Business Class and 12 First Class seats on the upper deck.

"Our decision for the A380 puts us first in the industry for leasing and we are the first in the pre-owned market with it. We have recognized the latent potential of the A380 and have taken the initiative to give this jet a new life," explains Hi Fly President Paulo Mirpuri, adding that there will be more demand for the A380 than previously anticipated. "We are very confident that this endeavor with the A380 will be a success," says Mirpuri.

As of March 31, 223 A380s were in service worldwide. Emirates Airline from Dubai has 102 in service and is by far the largest operator of this aircraft.
