Intersky - A new chapter has begun
January 8th marked a milestone in the history of the regional airline InterSky: the first of two brand new ATR72-600s ordered to date flew over to Friedrichshafen Airport on Lake Constance. Each aircraft is worth around 24 million US dollars.
This aircraft type has been on the market since summer 2011 and follows on from ATR's successful predecessor models. Delivery times for this very successful aircraft type are now up to 2.5 years due to the large number of pre-orders.
"The main reason for the decision to purchase these specific aircraft was the impressive economic and ecological values.
On average, the ATR72-600 consumes half as much fuel as an equivalent jet and around 30% less than a comparable turboprop aircraft," says Peter Oncken, Managing Director of InterSky.
"We have decided to equip the aircraft with 70 comfortable seats. Up to 74 passengers or seats are technically permitted.
The usual generous seat spacing at InterSky will therefore be maintained. Thanks to the modern Armonia cabin, the ATR72-600 also has the widest aisle of any regional aircraft on the market," adds Roger Hohl, Head of Sales and Marketing at InterSky.
Over the past few months, dozens of pilots, flight attendants and technicians have been retrained on the new aircraft type. Most of the training took place at the manufacturer ATR in Toulouse. The new aircraft will continue to be serviced in InterSky's own 24-hour maintenance facility at Friedrichshafen Airport. Overall, InterSky is doubling its workforce from around 100 to 200 employees as a result of the expansion.
In January, the aircraft will mainly be used between Friedrichshafen and Düsseldorf. In February, the new aircraft will fly mainly between Friedrichshafen, Graz and Zurich and from March onwards, the aircraft will be deployed across the routes from Friedrichshafen to Düsseldorf, Berlin and Hamburg.
Another new addition to the Intersky summer timetable is the Salzburg - Zurich route. The city of Mozart will be connected to this important destination up to four times a day.
