Austrian Airlines with Premium Economy
Austrian Airlines is now the second airline in the Lufthansa Group to offer a Premium Economy Class.
The new Premium Economy Class, a new seat that offers passengers more comfort than Economy Class, can be booked from March 6, 2018. The first Boeing 767 is already being converted, and all eleven long-haul aircraft in the Austrian Airlines fleet will gradually be equipped with the new travel class. The twelfth long-haul aircraft, which will join the fleet in spring 2018, will also be equipped with this new third class (in addition to Business and Economy Class).
The new Premium Economy Class at a glance:
- New seat with a wide seat surface and generous seat pitch
- Footrest from the second row and leg rest with integrated footrest in the first row
- footrest in the 1st row
- Always a separate center armrest with fold-out table and cocktail table
- cocktail table
- 12-inch monitor with remote control for the on-board entertainment system
- Dedicated power socket and USB port at the seat
- 2 x 23 kg free baggage allowance
- High-quality food selection with menu card
- Welcome drink
- Toiletry bag with useful travel accessories
The Premium Economy seat specially made for the Lufthansa Group is supplied by aircraft seat manufacturer ZIM and offers passengers plenty of legroom with a seat pitch of up to 97 cm. Additional footrests take the strain off the legs during a long flight. The center armrest with fold-out table between the seats with a personal, wide armrest for each guest provides more privacy and more space to the side. Passengers in the new travel class can check in two pieces of baggage weighing up to 23 kilograms each, and Do&Co catering is served on porcelain tableware. This product is also very attractively priced. The Vienna-Bangkok-Vienna flight is available from EUR 839 return including taxes and fees. AUA CEO Andreas Otto expects a return on investment of EUR 15 million in just one to two years, which is what Premium Economy costs for 12 long-haul aircraft.
Conclusion: At first glance, AUA's new Premium Economy Class makes a very positive impression. And rightly so, its commercial success should really soon be confirmed.
