On January 29, Swiss International Airlines took delivery of its first of nine Boeing 777-300ERs. Six aircraft will be available in August and the remaining three will be taken over by 2018.

The 777, which has been used very successfully by many airlines for years, offers further improvements for passengers. But that's not all that's new at Swiss. A new lounge for intercontinental flights (we will be reporting on this in more detail soon) and, from the summer, new jets for short and medium-haul routes (Bombardier c Series), which Swiss will be the first airline in the world to operate. There is no question that Swiss is a different airline today than it was a few years ago. More modern - it continues to develop in terms of quality.

Back to the 777: the largest aircraft in Switzerland with 340 seats, the jet now also offers Internet for all passengers, but only free of charge in First Class. Passengers can choose between a 20 MB SWISS Connect Data Package for CHF 9, 50 MB for CHF 19 or 120 MB for CHF 39. In addition, the development of in-flight telephony will be tested for over a year. To this end, an agreement has been concluded with the provider AeroMobile. The system will be deactivated during rest periods on night flights. After a year of testing, it will then be evaluated whether or not passengers want to use the phone on the plane, or whether it proves to be disruptive to travel comfort.

The new flagship will be used on the first long-haul flights from February 21. Initially four times a week to New York. From March 27, it will then fly daily on the Zurich - Montreal route before flying to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Los, San Francisco, São Paulo Guarulhos and Tel Aviv in the summer.

Swiss is part of Lufthansa. And the Lufthansa Group will receive 52 new aircraft in 2016 alone. Connoisseur Circle will be extensively testing how the new Boeing 777 performs in flight in the near future. In addition to 8 seats in First, 62 are available in Business and 270 in Economy Class.
