TAM from Brazil joins the oneworld Alliance
TAM Airlines from Brazil, a member of the LATAM Airlines Group, joined oneworld, one of the three global airline alliances currently undergoing the largest expansion in its history, on March 31. With immediate effect, all passengers of the Brazilian airline can enjoy the benefits of the alliance.
It is also a milestone in the accession process of the entire LATAM Airlines Group to
oneworld. LAN Airlines has been a member since 2000 with all its subsidiaries LAN Argentina, LAN Colombia, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru. TAM Mercosur, the airline of TAM in Paraguay, will also join the alliance in the near future. This means that all passenger airlines in the LATAM Airlines Group will be members of the same alliance.
Until recently, TAM was a member of Star Alliance, which also includes Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa. This expansion will enable oneworld to consolidate its position as the leading alliance for flights within Latin America and between this region and the United States and Europe, the most popular destinations for South American passengers. after all, 40 percent of the Latin American market is in Brazil.
With the transition to the alliance, TAM brings 45 new destinations to the oneworld network, which is currently undergoing the largest expansion in its 15-year history. In addition to TAM, US Airways has also joined the alliance as part of the American Airlines Group, making oneworld the largest alliance in the US market.
SriLankan Airlines will also become a member on May 1.
Oneworld also includes airberlin and Qantas from Australia as well as other airlines, which fly to a total of almost a thousand destinations in 150 countries. With a fleet of 3300 aircraft, the airlines offer 14250 daily flights and VIP lounges at 600 airports. oneworld airlines carry 485 million passengers every year and generate a total turnover of 140 billion US dollars.
