Earning miles not guaranteed

Many members of
global frequent flyer programs, such as miles&more, specifically book flights with airlines where they can collect the coveted bonus points. In other words, to consolidate their status as a customer, visit lounges and much more. Or to redeem miles for free flights. But earning miles is not always guaranteed. For example, friend Christian and his charming wife booked a ticket around the world on Star Alliance partner airlines for their honeymoon. Knowing full well that every airline allows you to collect miles with the same program. And given the price of the flight and the considerable distance, naturally hoping to earn lots of miles for it and then redeem them for another flight. But Star Alliance member Air New Zealand refused any bonus points. Why? The Round the World ticket was not purchased in the booking class that allows miles to be earned. A very unpleasant fact that neither Christian nor the dedicated lady at the travel agency took into account, because this fact was simply unknown to everyone involved.

Booking
classes can be found on the reservations. For example, F for First Class or C for Business. In Economy Class, there are a variety of fares and therefore also different booking classes, such as K, L or Y. Connoisseur Circle asked Star Alliance in Frankfurt how this can be avoided. The tip: if you book tickets with one or more Star Alliance airlines, you should check the miles&more Internet link or the respective frequent flyer program of each airline to see which fare classes do not allow you to earn miles. This will save you the unpleasant surprise of not receiving a single bonus mile instead of the many you had hoped for.
