In December 2016, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft from Canada celebrated the delivery of the first CS300 to airBaltic, which began its first scheduled flight on December 14.

The overdue delivery of the first CS300 is an important milestone in the C Series program, a completely redesigned regional aircraft. The larger version of the jet, alongside the CS100 which is already in service with Swiss International Air Lines, is designed for 130 to 150 passengers. And airBaltic is the first airline in the world to operate this larger type. This even put the Latvians, who are otherwise somewhat reserved in their feelings, in high spirits at the ceremonial handover in Riga.

"We are thrilled to be able to put the first CS300 aircraft - the latest member of the world's most innovative and technologically advanced aircraft family - into service," said Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, at the celebrations in a hangar in Riga attended by many celebrities and even more employees. The new jet is said to have already exceeded expectations on its first missions.

airBaltic currently has 24 aircraft in its fleet, half of which are Boeing 737s and half Bombardier Q400s. A total of 20 CS300s have been ordered. The CS300 will now replace the old Boeings. For passengers, this means greater comfort: a spacious cabin, plenty of room in the baggage hold, an extremely quiet cabin thanks to state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly engines and much more. airBaltic hopes that the new fleet will not only reduce operating costs, but also increase the attractiveness of traveling with the Latvian airline. Riga's compact but modern airport already impresses with its comfort and short distances for quick transfers. The Riga hub is particularly suitable for flights from Western Europe to the North or Eastern Europe. And thanks to the increased range of the CS300, even more exciting routes should soon be added to airBaltic's route network.
