Airberlin is finished

Every day, more and more people are asking whether it is still possible to buy tickets from Airberlin, which is in massive difficulties.

It must be clearly stated that it is unclear what Airberlin will look like from the fall. An example: A few days ago, a press release announced that Airberlin flights to the USA can be booked from 333 euros. An act of desperation to attract passengers. And despite this great price, bookings are collapsing, people have no confidence, so the airline is missing even more money. And because there is no more money coming in from sales, the vicious circle leads to further flight cancellations. As was the case on 29 August, when Airberlin announced that in order to stabilize the operational situation at Berlin-Tegel Airport, further loss-making routes would be discontinued in autumn and winter: The two daily connections from Berlin to Abu Dhabi will be canceled on September 17 and October 1, the connection between Berlin and Chicago on September 30. In addition, airberlin is bringing forward by four weeks to October 1 the cancellation of flights from Berlin to Los Angeles and San Francisco and from Düsseldorf to Boston, which was planned for the start of the winter flight schedule. Passengers on the affected flights will be rebooked on other flights as far as possible. However, this also affects flights that were recently offered as special deals. If you are traveling on Airberlin flights today, and many of them are well booked, appearances are deceptive. Because all these passengers paid for their tickets weeks or months ago. Now this income is only flowing to Airberlin to a limited extent. Further route cancellations are therefore to be expected. Should or can you still book Airberlin flights? In the short term on European routes, certainly, for the next one to two weeks. But long-term bookings - and especially for intercontinental flights - should be avoided, because the tug-of-war over the distribution of Airberlin to other airlines is in full swing.
