The low-cost airline Eurowings, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, has ambitious plans for 2017.

Not only is it growing rapidly throughout Europe to reach a competitive size, but it is also focusing on Austria.

Since January 11, Salzburg has been the second location in Austria alongside Vienna. With the aircraft stationed on the Salzach, Eurowings is creating 35 new jobs. Passengers will be offered 480,000 seats annually from Salzburg.

A positive aspect for the numerous members of the Lufthansa frequent flyer program Miles&More, of which there are many in Austria, is that their bonus miles can also be redeemed on all Eurowings flights.

Eurowings is initially stationing an Airbus A320, which is only six months old, together with its crews at the Salzburg base. The airline will quickly expand its services for the 2017 summer timetable, offering 30 weekly flights from Salzburg to ten destinations: Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Brussels, Paris, Mallorca, Olbia, Split, Dubrovnik and Thessaloniki. Eurowings will also equip a total of 69 Airbus A320 aircraft with internet by next summer.

In Vienna, where Eurowings has been represented since June 2016, the number of aircraft stationed there will double to six Airbus A320s by the summer. From May, Eurowings will open another base in Palma de Mallorca with four aircraft.

The expansion of Eurowings in Austria comes at a time when FlyNiki is massively reducing its routes due to its merger with the German vacation airline TUIfly. As a result, the Eurowings route network now includes some connections from the Alpine republic that were previously served by FlyNiki.
