Condor expands
The long-established German leisure airline Condor is taking advantage of the gap created by the restructuring of Austrian Airlines, which has massively reduced the leisure flight sector. It was therefore only a matter of time before this gap was filled by the competition.
From November 2, Condor will now be flying once a week from Vienna to Punta Cana in the DomRep. "Our sister company Neckermann is also active in Austria, so we know the market. Punta Cana has been booked promisingly and we will see whether more will come of it. The vacation flight sector in Austria is virtually monopolized by Niki and Air Berlin. However, there is an urgent need for another airline to enter the segment alongside Niki," says Ralf Teckentrup, Managing Director of Condor, in an interview with Connoisseur Circle.
At the same time, Condor is opening seasonal flights in winter from Düsseldorf and Hamburg to Klagenfurt. Twice a week in each case.
"We currently have 25 medium-haul aircraft (Airbus A320 and Boeing 757) and ten Boeing 767-300ER intercontinental aircraft in operation. An eleventh Boeing 767 will be added in December and then a twelfth next year. In the future, we want to further expand our long-haul business and still have many ideas," confirms Teckentrup. The focus is likely to remain on Caribbean destinations.
Condor, which belongs to the Thomas Cook Group, has also ordered 30 Airbus A320/321s. Twelve A321s are on firm order, the rest are leased.
